Tanya Kliefoth
Tanya Kliefoth originally from California, is a professional flutist of over 27 years experience in performance, teaching flute and conducting flute ensembles. Some beloved teachers of her history of flute performance studies include Michel Debost and Kathleen Chastain of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Eldred Spell of Western Carolina University and Lars Nilsson of the Escuela de Música, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Argentina. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree of Music in Flute Performance and Biology, she embarked on a 9 year journey into the unknown terrain of Latin America to explore and teach Biology in International Schools in Costa Rica and Chile as well as lead flute ensembles. While in Santiago Chile, she earned a Master’s degree in Sociology and Politics of Latin America at the private university, la Universidad Alberto Hurtado, with a thesis focus on conservation of the native temperate forests in southern Chile. Now having recently returned to the northern hemisphere, she currently performs with Erato Ensemble, a professional art song chamber group, the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, and teaches flute in Burnaby, Coquitlam, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver.
